I made these prayer flags by hand as a whole-hearted act of Bhakti by carving images of the Buddha and 4 different aspects of Tara and then printing the blocks on beautiful batik fabric sourced from Thailand and finally cutting and attaching them to a sparkly natural twine. They are beautiful and full of the magic of the mantras infused in them.
I was originally inspired by chanting the Ambitabha Buddha mantra with Krishna Das at his Garrison retreat. Ambitabha vowed to help all beings reach enlightenment by welcoming them into his suffering-free Pure Land (Sukhavati) simply through the mindful recitation of his name.
However, this evolved into a months long devotional practice, sparked the release of the 21 Taras Collective’s first album. The Taras come from that album and I listened and chanted with it continuously during those lengthy nights of the creation process.
These prayer flags vary in color mix and exact sizing, because they are very much handmade. Each flag is approximately 3×3.5-ish inches. I spent many hours coming up with a flow of colors for each set so that the energy you experience as the flags flutter in the wind is harmonious.
